One of the great discoveries from my residency at the St George Bar in Tokyo was the bigger and more popular the artist the more friendly and approachable they were. Brandford Marsalis was one of the most generous players I had the pleasure to meet. He arrived at our gig with horn, introduced himslf to us and asked if he could sit in for a set. Unfortunately for us we had finished our gig just 10 minutes earlier and were unable to convince the bar manager to let us play another set even though the bar was still open.
